Nephogram app for iPhone and iPad

Nephogram by Andrés Galeano is a free app that calculates how many grams of CO2 are emitted by the photos we share on social media.

This artistic project reflects on the virtual cloud that is the Internet and the environmental impact it has in terms of carbon dioxide emissions, which are directly responsible for global warming.

Nephogram is a digital tool that combines art, science and technology to minimize our carbon footprint when we share photos on the Internet, thus promoting a more ecological future.

How does it work?

To reduce your photographic carbon footprint, Nephogram compresses your photos and calculates how many grams of CO2 are emitted by an image, based on the number of views it might receive on social media. Our metrics are an estimation based on several scientific studies and calculations made by specialists in Atmospheric Physics.

You can easily share your photos by either taking a greener photo directly from the app, which is automatically compressed, selecting a pre-existing photo from your smartphone to be compressed, or reusing one of the more eco-friendly photos already saved to your Nephogram gallery.

To calculate how much CO2 a photo would emit, simply select the social network you intend to use. A 5-colour photo-score then visually informs you how eco-friendly it is.

If you are 100% convinced you still want to publish/send the photo, it will be shared on the desired platform, accompanied by a watermark displaying how much CO2 it emits.
